Dantewada..who is to blame?

Arundhati Roy’s interview on CNN IBN was an eye opener for a person like me, whose knowledge about the Maoists problem doesn’t go beyond the half cooked ill researched and sometimes politically influenced stories fed to us by the Indian English news channels.
When viewed in isolation Dantewada( as i did before i saw that interview) all the blames lies with the Maoists . Surely there is no apt reason to kill 76 men , but when you push a community of a 100,000 to the brink, such instances will happen.
When asked why she romanticised the view of a 16 year old girl carrying a gun. Her answer was that she wished that it had never come to the day that she viewed such an instance in positive light, but she’d rather see her carrying a gun than getting raped by a CRPF jawan.
I agree with her when she says that we live in a fake democracy. We live in a country where there is a democracy, but only for the rich and the middleclass. No, such concept exists for the poor and the marginalised.
How can such violence be justified?
“Non violent protest works only of you have an audience. In the forest you don’t have any”
Though the full interview is not available on the net at present ill post it as soon as I can get my hands on it.

Dog v/s Donkey
In a seminar which I attended a few days back, which was half educational and half inspirational in nature, the speaker drew an interesting analogy between man and animal.
There are two type of people: There are the dogs, and there are the donkeys.
If you notice dogs, a semi- intelligent creature, when stuck in the middle of a highway with vehicles swooshing by, all confused, they have a tendency to run back and forth. Eventually, baaam, they are hit. Donkeys on the other hand, dumb creatures when sitting in the middle of the same road, wouldn’t budge from their position, come whatever may. A speeding driver knows from a distance that I need to go round it. Result the donkey lives.
Moral of the story, it much better being a donkey than dog. Though the latter is more intelligent than the former, it is the donkey which survives. Make a decision and be a donkey. Stick by your decision.
Now my situation resembles to that of a dog.
Whenever I manage to get my ass down to study….Should I study for CAT, should I be working on the minor project, sessionals and semesters both are approaching, should I study for them…. After contemplating for a few minutes, or sometimes for up to an hour, I bid adios to the books.
I want to be a donkey. I just can’t decide where I want to sit.

Estranged cousin’s wedding: Episode Two:Indora

The driver paused at the bank momentarily, a person sitting behind a pickup truck passing by the car shouted as it crossed the river ” the water is not deep you can cross it in the car”. The driver a sardarji, turned the key and stepped on the gas and in we went. As my mom was all freaked out an the level of the water rose, my sister shouted back “quickly nidhish get the camera”. At one point of time it almost looked like the car wouldn’t make it through but it did. Though it didn’t come out very well I did manage to take a pic with the car in the river.
Indora is a small town in Himachal Pradesh with minimal development. Narrow roads, a population of some 5,000 in an area greater than 50 km in radius. It’s the sort of place you would like to visit when you get sick and tired of the hustle bustle of the city.

Why I love being, not in love.
Being single is not as bad as I thought it would be when I ended relationship with my girlfriend of 2 years. Its actually quite awesome. Reasons
You don’t need to be by the phone 24x7.
You don’t feel ashamed when you swear.
You can be as perverted and cheap as you want to be.
You are free to ogle at hot chics.
You can have friends.
Your telephone bills shrink to near zilch
You miraculously seem to have more money in your pockets these days.

Estranged cousin’s wedding: Episode One:The Background
Things have never been rosy between my mom and the the younger of my two buas. But the thing hit rock bottom when I was in Kenya along with my dad. It reached a stage where my mom and bua couldn’t be in the same room without heated exchange of words. The best you could expect was a namste ji with a forced smile on both their faces followed by an awkward silence.
The wedding was to take place in Pathankot, and all events including ladies sangeet and saint were to take place in Indora. The sort of place which doesn’t come up on any search results on the web and google earth says that it doesn’t exist.
It was a must for me to go for the wedding as father is not here and the mama has a very significant role to play in the nieces wedding, and if the mama is not present to perform the rites, it’s the responsibility of the son to perform them in his place.
